(101) a flat spin featuring mary deighan 6. (102) cover girl featuring erica 7. (103) all in a days work featuring paulapage for some odd reason when released, the last three films were given different numbers: 101,102,103. they were all black and white, without a soundtrack and available in 8mm or 16mm. the less popular 16mm, but better quality format, was eventually dropped. 8mm glamour film catalogue from kamera cine films issues 32 kamera carried an advert for a series of films called wonderful london . these films were george’s attempt to capitalise on london’s tourist trade. i suspect, however, the films didn’t do well as the advert only appeared the once. a further seven glamour titles were announced in issue 35 of kamera , and issue 36 mentioned 12 new films, but didn’t give any details – you had to apply for a 16-page catalogue. it wasn’t until issue 48 in 1962 that any details of the new films appeared. on the inside cover of issue 50, all the currently available titles were listed for the first time, but in no particular order and not numbered. there were 40 in all, and the same advert appeared in the next six issues. 8mm glamour film catalogue from kamera cine films after that, there were occasional adverts for new films, and in issue 66 the first advert for a colour film appeared — dream goddess , starring june palmer, which was shot on the roman set built for the feature film the naked world of harrison marks . the production of these short glamour films continued for some twelve months or more after kamera publications ceased trading in 1968. issue 79 of kamera sees the last advert for a film under the kamera cine films banner: film number 87, rosalie (keep young and beautiful). he seems to have made only two more films with kamera cine films after that. in the penultimate issue of kamera , number 88, he lists for the first time “a new and exciting series of harrison marks’ glamour”. these are numbered from e.1 to e.21. being superstitious, harrison marks didn’t number any of his kamera cine films no.13. after the kamera companies went into liquidation in 1969, harrison marks formed a new film company called maximus, which re-released his earlier films. he continued making movies for both the home and continental markets, but by the mid-seventies, harrison marks had moved into making hardcore films and his name no longer appeared on all his productions. in 2016 the british film institute fully restored two of george’s kamera cine films: xcitement! (no.11), starring pamela green and vampire (no.110), starring wendy luton they are available to watch online for free. sun bathing review july 5, 2018 in miscellaneous , spielplatz | 2 comments sun bathing review : quarterly journal of the sun societies, winter 1959, featuring pamela green on the cover. in the 1950s few magazines would publish nude photos. the exception was those that focussed on the naturist and nudist lifestyle. it’s no surprise then to learn that pamela green regularly appeared in such magazines as health and efficiency and the sun bathing review . she appeared on the cover of health & efficiency at least five times, the earliest i know being in june 1952. the early photos were mostly taken by stephen glass and someone called jenard. by 1955 she seems to have been working exclusively for harrison marks. health & efficiency was first published in 1900 and is still going today. if you know any details about jenard, please get in touch. would love to hear from you. princess sonmar roughs it june 8, 2018 in miscellaneous , uncategorized | 1 comment a still from the set of gypsy fire (1961), an 8mm film that featured sonmar h’arriks, who was introduced to the readers of kamera back in the autumn of 1958. sonmar was supposedly a princess from morocco. how she ended up hanging out with a bunch of gypsies, we will never know. sonmar h’arriks is an anagram of harrison marks. now there’s a coincidence. save save save save dambusters 75th anniversary may 16, 2018 in dambuster | 2 comments douglas webb in the back garden with his mother, daisy. this week marks the 75th anniversary of operation chastise, in which the raf secured a crucial victory at the height of the second world war by dropping barnes wallis’s “bouncing bomb” on the dams in germany’s industrial heartland. a total of 133 aircrew left for the raid on board 19 lancaster bombers. fifty-three of them lost their lives in the eight planes that were shot down or crashed during the daring attack on the night of 16 may 1943. douglas webb was the front gunner of aj-o, the last plane back. doug was awarded the dfm for his role in the raid. five of the crew were also given medals, making them the second most decorated dams raid crew after guy gibson’s. doug also flew on 617 squadron’s last wartime operation, an attack on hitler’s mountain lair. len sumpter, another dams raid participant, also flew on that mission, making them the only two men to fly on the squadron’s first and last wartime operations. doug is to be honoured with a blue plaque at 158 richmond road, london e11, the house where he was living when he enlisted in the raf at the age of 18. the plaque will be unveiled on thursday 17 may at 10.00am. all welcome. read my earlier post for more about doug. sav
